Review
This book flows like a conversation over coffee, but the content is not surface chit chat. Carole shares details... some heartbreaking, some beautifully delightful... all in the effort of giving the reader a full, un-photoshopped view of her marriage journey. Mental illness is a main theme, but the bigger theme is how God kept her faithful and gave her discernment and perseverance at every (difficult!!) step. She doesn't sugarcoat the difficult times, and she doesn't overlook the goodness of God in it. Deborah BrennerWe all struggle to find joy in the trials of adversity. Are You Ready to Find Joy shows that even in the depths of despair we can find it. Carole has the skill to story tell in a way that brings you into the movie of her life with imagery of what she is going through. Her writing is real and raw. Authenticity is what a lot of authors miss. She did not. John ThompsonAll of us know about messy lives. In this book the author vulnerably opens up about her journey and the joy she has found in a less than perfect life. She skillfully takes us through her story with the obvious goal of giving others hope and encouragement in theirs. A book that would be good to read if you have a similar journey or if you are a church pastor or leader who wants to know how to best relate to others living with messy pieces, especially with depression or suicidal thoughts. Debbie AlsdorfI couldn't stop reading once I started. I can only imagine the hope it would provide someone dealing with family or friends suffering from mental illness. Even if you are blessed to not deal with mental illness there are so many practical strategies that could be used for any struggle. In this life we will continually be faced with challenges, and I'm thankful for those that are willing to openly and honestly share theirs to provide hope in the midst of valley. Jenn PainterCarole helps bring the reader back around over and over again to the truth that having a deep and abiding joy in Jesus can sustains them through the most troublesome trials. From the heartbreaking stories to the light-hearted memories, Carole demonstrates how the joy from Jesus changed her perspective and prepared her to walk through this mess beaming with a joyful radiance (no doubt you would see this joy in her smile, too).
