Review
"Supported by over 30 years of clinical research, Sarah Edelman has written a volume that is clear, practical, empowering, thoughtful, and forward-thinking. She distills a broad and complex literature to provide the reader with useful strategies for coping with life's problems. Many excellent volumes have been written on how cognitive-behavioral strategies can be used to overcome feelings of depression, anxiety, loss, anger, and frustration. This volume, however, does something more--it offers sensible guidelines for leading an optimistic, balanced, and worthwhile life."--Mark A. Reinecke, Ph.D., ABPP, ACT, Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Northwestern University "Change Your Thinking is an excellent self-help book that will inspire readers to modify their faulty thinking and self-defeating behavior so they can more effectively cope with stress and pursue happiness."--Martha Sue Davis, Ph.D., psychologist, author of psychology self-help books
Long Description
- Based on the highly effective psychological tool already widely used by therapists: Everyone experiences complicated thoughts and feelings--such as anger, depression, frustration, and anxiety--that can leave one despaired and have an injurious effect on day-to-day life. CBT, used as a self-help tool, combats these feelings and can help readers improve their self-destructive behaviors and feelings, deal with stress better, and lead a happier life. - Helpful exercises for taking charge of one's emotions: Whether one is dealing with overwhelming feelings of frustration, anger, and depression, or trying to cope with anxiety or raise self-esteem, the easy-to-follow exercises throughout help readers practically implement the theories of CBT into their lives--from recognizing harmful thinking to effective problem solving, better communicating, and replacing negative cognitions with more positive ones. - An extremely straightforward, already proven addition to the perennially strong-selling CBT bookshelf. Change Your Thinking has already sold more than 50,000 copies in Australia--and will be embraced by North American readers seeking to benefit from CBT for its clarity and concision, straightforward tone, and highly practical exercises.
