De Maupassant/Une Vie and Bel Ami/flex/DJ/Modern Library/1934

Une Vie and Bel Ami by Guy De Maupassant. New York: The Modern Library, 1932. First Modern Library Edition. Although not the most expensive, this may be the rarest balloon cloth title in the Modern Library. Originally issued by Boni & Liveright as Une Vie in 1918, it was combined with Bel Ami in 1932 and discontinued only three years later.  Bound in brown flexible cloth (spine #7), the book is in Very Good or better condition. Solid binding, very bright gilt, handsome brown topstain. Remainder star on ffep; otherwise contents are clean with yellowing to pages and no owner's signature or other writing in text.  Table of Contents page states "First Modern Library Edition, 1932."The dust jacket is also Very Good or better with very minimal edgewear to the top of the spine and at two corners. Light soiling on front panel as shown. On the back of the dust jacket 225 titles are mentioned indicating a 1934 printing, later than the book.  This may have been a case of refurbishing the DJ when the book was discontinued. I cannot find another copy of this title in DJ online at any price.
