Author Biography

Novella Zett Keith is an associate professor of Urban Education in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Temple University. Her 15 years at Temple, an urban university, have deepened her interest and honed her understanding of how to facilitate the ability of different groups to work together democratically. The recipient of a distinguished teaching award, she has been a leader in her college and university in developing graduate and undergraduate courses that bring university students and community members together through university-community partnerships. This work has been supported by foundation and university grants as well as by an NGO she and collaborators have spearheaded to support international community-based learning partnerships. Her work has been published in such journals as the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning, Educational Administration Quarterly, Theory Into Practice, Education and Urban Society, and Journal of Curriculum Studies. She is also the co-author of two books on democratic practice and community development.
