Author Biography
Jerilyn Marler is an author and publisher focused on helping military children and parents thrive during deployment separations. She's the author of "Lily Hates Goodbyes," a full-color storybook for young children who have to say goodbye to a loved one for about a billion days, and a handbook for parents titled "Helping Your Young Child Cope with a Parent's Deployment." As a military child, military wife, and military mom she shares her experience with cheerful wisdom. A writer and editor since 1979, Jerilyn wrote three books about WordPerfect for MIS: Press, a subsidiary of Henry Holt Publishers; edited dozens of technical books; and has written/edited end user documentation for more products than she can count. Jerilyn wrote "Lily Hates Goodbyes" for her 4-year-old granddaughter who was distraught by her daddy's deployment aboard the USS MOMSEN. The book helped Lily talk about her feelings, develop healthy ways to cope with those feelings, feel connected to her daddy despite the distance between them, be reminded that her mommy was steadfastly beside her and that a joyful hello was coming. The book helped Lily so much that Jerilyn published it for all young children who suffer through long separations from a loved one.
Review
"I have been part of the Marine community for over a decade. I love how this book is short, concise, and creative. The author has wonderful ideas that I will incorporate into future deployments, as well as sound advice. I highly recommend this book." Rachel H., Amazon review"I wish I had this book before my little 5-year-old granddaughter's daddy was deployed. Our family will be much better prepared for the next deployment. Get it. Read it. Pass the word. Your kids (and grandkids) will be much better off for it." Dan, Amazon review"The advice and tips were immediately effective. Although my 2.5 year old daughter didn't full understand Daddy's absence, we were able to reassure her heart, which ultimately reassured her mind." -Sam
