She conducted interviews and observations, and analyzed public records, personal documents, and physical evidence through DisCrit, critical disability theory, and Tomlinson's analysis of special education to understand the intersection between neoliberal ideology and inclusive education for students of color with disabilities, arguing that successful inclusive environments cannot thrive under the influence of neoliberal education policies like efficiency, cost-cutting, and increased standardization and that special education in neoliberal environments reproduces existing inequality and social stratification through chronic underfunding and lack of preparation for students with disabilities. She discusses disaster capitalism and neoliberalism in relation to the history of school choice and the privatization movement in the US; the history of education for students with disabilities and how race and ability intersect, including the overrepresentation of black and Latino students in special education; the aspirations of the school in the study vs. its reality; the myths and assumptions of its school choice rhetoric; the incompatibility of neoliberalism and inclusive education and how the staff at the school were unable to make their inclusive education programs succeed; and recommendations for more equitable outcomes for students of color with disabilities in charter schools.
