For a VINTAGE HARDBACK BOOK this item is in EXCELLENT VERY GOOD Condition! & with ONLY 2 PREVIOUS OWNERS, your getting an item that hasn't been used often! NO marks, NO writing, just crisp clean pages! Only very minimal signs of wear explained in detail below:

*ITEM(S) OF NOTE: The signs of use mentioned below are mostly all on the exterior of the book, on the dust-jacket mostly; NOTHING affects the inner text, which looks BRAND NEW! The front of the dust-jacket has several insignificant flaws: on the upper section (around the title and one small column going down to the middle section) & along the right-side edge, there are some transparent white marks that can only be seen in certain angles; On the bottom section, there's a few tiny indentations that are very light; The bottom-right corner has a tiny bit of crinkling. The back of the dust-jacket has some very faint discoloration like a border around the text. On the 1st Page – the cardstock page that protects the Title Page – a previous owner wrote their name & the date they bought it; this page also has some faint "orangish"-colored smudges & stains, but they are very transparent-like & NOT very noticeable without closer scrutiny. The top EXTERIOR page-edges have tiny, transparent spots – they look like water spots & were there when I bought the book; they do NOT go inside! The upper-edge of the dust-jacket has extremely faint wear, but the dust-jacket was taped on by a previous owner so it's in excellent condition! On the open-end rightside, the exterior page-edges have transparent, hard to see spots; they do NOT go inside! Likewise, the bottom exterior page-edges have faint & transparent marks that can barely be seen – they do NOT go inside. The appearance of the crossbow on the European battle field in A.D. 1100 as the weapon of choice for shooting down knights threatened the status quo of medieval chivalric fighting techniques. By 1139 the Church had intervened, outlawing the use of the crossbow among Christians. With this edict, arms control was born.

As Robert L. O'Connell reveals in this vividly written history of weapons in Western culture, that first attempt at an arms control measure characterizes the complex and often paradoxical relationship between men and arms throughout the centuries.
