Description Penny Parker is facing a dilemma. Halloween is approaching and she can't decide what costume she wants for trick or treating. Should she be something cute, something scary or maybe someone exotic? Mom promised they would buy a costume soon, but Penny must learn patience and wait several days to make the trip to the store. At the store, she is faced with choosing from among all the many costumes. Finally, they find the perfect costume - a pink and black pirate outfit with a matching hat. Of course, now that she has her costume she must patiently wait for Halloween to actually wear it. Penny enjoys trick or treating as a pirate, but her desire to be a pirate does not end there. After Halloween she continues to dress in the costume and pretends her bed is a ship as she sails to further imaginary adventures as Penny the Pink Pirate.

Author Biography

So you want know more about me? I grew up in a log ... no, wait ... wrong guy. Well, I did grow up in a very rural area. A member of the Egyptian High School class of 1975, consisting of around 60 kids. I found myself giving the valedictorian address at graduation (woo-hoo), but perhaps that was more about being in a small pond than being particularly bright. However, I did go on to get a BS from the University of Illinois thanks to an AFROTC federal scholarship. My college dorm had more people living in it than the population of my entire home town (Tamms, IL). Talk about culture shock; all the sudden I was a tiny fish in a HUGE pond. I served almost 5 years in the Air Force, utilizing my degree in Aeronautical / Astronautical engineering to conduct and manage wind tunnel testing. Like many of my generation, around my mid to late twenties I made a career change - careening into IT. Along the way I've done some writing (mostly technical until now), managing, consulting, teaching, coding, public speaking, etc. - but not necessarily in that order. Hopefully I've been great at a few, and at least good at them all - but really that's for others to judge. Three of my four children are adults (my how time flies), and presumably on their own now. Viktoriya, my wife of 14 years, and I enjoy raising our daughter Samantha. We adopted Sam from Moscow, Russia in 2009 when she was little more than one year old. Samantha just finished kindergarten, recently had her second dance recital, enjoys swimming at the YMCA, goes shopping far too often with her mom, and loves eating hot dogs and salsa at the local Mexican restaurant. She also is the star of, and inspiration for, my first children's book - Penny Becomes a Pirate.
