The Essentials of CoreSinging: A Joyful Approach to Singing and Voice Pedagogy presents a unique and innovative outlook by Meribeth Dayme, one of the most important voice pedagogues in modern times. CoreSinging offers a universal approach to singing applicable to any style or level of singing and performance, designed to function as an adjunct or supplement rather than replacement to any other system of singing. The ultimate result transforms fear of singing into joy and ease.CoreSinging is formed on five elements: energy, awareness, imagination, practice, and performance. Each of these elements is present in all stages and levels of singing from beginner to professional. Concepts of energy—physical, metaphysical, mental, emotional, psychological, psychic, and spiritual—help singers transform themselves, their sound, and their performance into an experience of healing for both singer and audience. For the first time, Cynthia Vaughan and Matthew Hoch have compiled and edited this culminating work of Meribeth Dayme. Review
[This] book is a solid start for interested teachers. It is a refreshing outlook on vocal pedagogy and provides great supplemental material for any teacher looking to be well-rounded and comprehensive in their approach. As Meribeth Dayme states, "being imaginative and playful is a birthright that you have full permission to use as much as you like."5A perfect, sincere, and respectful reflection of the CoreSinging approach. The case studies confirm just how important this work is. Meribeth Dayme and her wisdom are immortalized in this book--like her, it's a game changer. As both a how-to and reference guide, this book succeeds in tackling many ways to creatively approach a singing lesson and would be useful in creating lesson plans and providing tools for singers to carry in their vocal tool bag. Additionally, this book would be valuable for teachers who wish to expand their students' capacities for self reflection. It is unique in that, after describing a concept, it offers a range of exercises that the reader can explore in real time and then follow up with evidence of the benefits. [This] book provides tremendous insight for new teachers entering the field of pedagogy, and inspiration for more experienced teachers who would like to refresh their approaches. It is scientific, practical, and just as joyful as Dayme intended.Meribeth Dayme's pioneering legacy is now distilled in this volume to pass on to future generations. All the best instincts and concepts about how to successfully give confidence to and inspire students are laid out with clarity. This is a wonderful, important book for those of us fortunate to have known Meribeth, and it is truly foundational for any lover of the human voice--a seminal contribution to vocal pedagogy. Indeed, it is a book for the human journey with much wisdom. The reflections of the contributors are fresh and illuminating. This should be required reading for every budding voice teacher or teacher who is burnt out and needs a shot of renewal, and the "Basic Principles of CoreSinging" should be framed and put on every teacher and student's wall.
