Excerpt from Book
So many of us turn a blind eye to money simply because we''re confused, scared or embarrassed to talk about it. Finance can be intimidating, and, let''s face it, it is far from sexy. I have spent quite a few years (27 and counting) talking finance with smart men (and incredible women) in sharp business suits. I am often the one in bold colours with red lippy, so I certainly do not blend in. And while I truly respect these very intelligent people who really get finance, the conversation about money can be as boring as waiting for paint to dry and way too complicated for the average Joe to get their head around. I often found myself waiting for the exciting bits like how I can use money to build my dream life or finally buy that sportscar I had my eye on. Most people don''t care about spreadsheets; they want to know how they can retire comfortably or live in their dream home. They want to bring up their kids with a solid education and have no debt to their name while enjoying family holidays. They don''t want to be facing Monday morning with a major headache and a big vein pulsating out of their forehead as they grip the car steering wheel on the way to another day at work. People want happiness and peace, when it comes down to it. The things is, money is the bridge to your dream life. You can''t avoid money if you want a good life. It''s the jam that makes the bread stick together. It''s the sweet stuff of life that actually gets you the things you want. The best way to be living your life by your own terms is to get your finances sorted, because money is the tool that will get you the life you want. I will say this over and over again because it''s true. Many people run the other way when the conversation turns to money, and I get it. We''d rather skip the bits about budgeting, retirement funds and interest rates. Let''s face it, it''s not the most exciting or interesting topic to sink your teeth into, unless you get your socks off with accounting (and hey, I''m not one to judge here; I did choose money education as my profession and I quite enjoy having control of the finances in our house, and even if my husband wanted to take over I probably wouldn''t let him.). Money can be confusing and complex, and it''s also intimidating and anxiety-inducing. I wonder if there''s been any research into high blood pressure while logging into bank accounts? The last thing you want to think about is calling the bank to try to get a better interest rate on your mortgage or creating a budget (yet again) and figuring out your cashflow and expenses. Facing your retirement savings and actually putting away what you need for the future? Get me a Xanax or some of that medicinal cannabis. Doing your tax return on time? No thanks. How about throwing a bunch of money into a stock or crypto that you thought was going to make you rich and it didn''t? Yeah, I''ve seen that one happen. Could this be why we''re not willing to talk about this stuff called money? Hmm, well, yes. The thing is, having money is sexy, but talking about finance is boring. I''m here to get you thinking about money in a new way by sparking courageous conversations that gets us talking about what we all really want in life and finding the most direct route to getting it. It''s time to get real about money, lose the taboos and bring it out in the open. The more we talk openly about money, the faster we will kill the stigma attached to it which is frankly what''s getting us nowhere. More than half the population is considered financially illiterate which just worries me. So there''s a lot of work to do to help people on the path to financial freedom. I want to help you unlearn your limiting beliefs about money so you can make better financial decisions and improve your life. Wherever you are now, whatever your situation is, it''s not too late to take control of your finances to get you on the path to a better life.
