Excerpt from Book
Vital Tenets Shaping Organizational Values and Culture With constant change in organizations we may lose sight of the reason why organizations exist and what the larger goals are stretching back to the founding of the organization. Individuals need to position their role in the larger context of the organization and internalize the unique culture of the organization. Barring that we risk creating our own hybrid culture from our own experiences and personifying that rather than the founding culture of the organization. Unfortunately this is the status quo at many organizations today where there is no uniformity of message or consistency of service. A "roll of the dice' culture then emerges in unpredictable forms. Innovative organizations should seek to have one consistent culture embraced by every employee across the enterprise globally. Much of the responsibility of creating, communicating and reinforcing this organizational culture lies upon the leadership of the organization itself. Key questions Why are organizational values and culture important or vital? * Because lack of an embedded, active, positive culture stifles organizational progress. * Because multiple, warring cultures undermines creating value. * Because a "bad fit" employee that may exit the organization may really be a "great fit" employee if they are trained on the organizations culture and values as part of enterprise-wide initiative. This is a potential lost opportunity and a wasted investment. * Because job satisfaction is directly related to agreement on values and culture (culture fit) and happy employees are healthier and produce better results. * Because every organization must compete and the quality of employees can make the difference in the success or failure of an organization.
