The Nile on eBay William Bligh by Michael Sedunary, Bern Emmerichs
To survive one mutiny might be considered fortunate, but to survive two is extraordinary. Here is the true story of William Bligh, the man at the centre of the mutiny on The Bounty, and one of the most remarkable figures in early Australian history."Our aim in this series of stories from Australia's past is to present a living history in a voice that young readers will find engaging and inclusive. Living history, not only in the sense that it involves vivid scenes and colourful characters, but also in the sense that it deals with issues and themes that readers can identify as relevant to their own lives." Long Description
A Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Notable Book for 2017, for the Eve Pownall Information award. Age range 9 to 12 William Bligh: a stormy story of tempestuous times unpeels the layers of some of the most incredible circumstances in Australia's colonial history. Some people may have heard of the famous mutiny on the bounty; others may have heard of the rum rebellion coup; but the details in and around these events are largely unknown and truly extraordinary. This is precisely what the latest book reveals. Beautifully written by Michael Sedunary and complimented with the stunning artwork of Australia's most prominent ceramic artist, Bern Emmerichs - this is an exceptional book. 'Both author and illustrator have brought the tempestuous story of William Bligh to life in this superb history book, which informs, intrigues and involves the reader by asking questions and upturning incorrect facts and prejudices. Bligh was an enthusiastic, ambitious and driven man and this book clearly describes the trajectory that saw him subjected to two mutinies-on the Bounty and the Rum Rebellion.' -Books + Publisher Junior Teacher's notes available here.
